About this coloring page
This butterfly has a smaller wing shape drawn inside each of its four wings, so every wing has an outer band and an inner area. A ringed spot sits in the middle of each wing, the body has a line down its center, and the antennae end in round knobs.
The nested shapes are ready-made for rings of color moving inward. The bands are narrow in places, so it helps to color slowly around the curves or switch to colored pencils. Planning the colors for one wing first makes the other three quick to copy.
Color ideas
- Color the outer band of each wing dark purple, the inner wing lilac and the ringed spot white.
- Use the rainbow from the outside in: red outer band, yellow inner wing and blue spot.
- Split the body down its center line, coloring one half black and the other half dark blue.
Did you know?
- A butterfly's left and right wings are almost perfect mirror images of each other.
- The word mandala comes from Sanskrit and means "circle."
Try this
Choose three colors and use them in the same order on every wing – outside, inside, spot – then check that both sides match.
