About this coloring page
A thin bare branch stretches across the top of the page with two little twigs hanging from it. Below, five leaves tumble down at different angles, each one with a center vein and side veins.
The veins split each leaf into small diamond-shaped windows, so this suits children who like careful work. A fine-tipped marker or a sharp colored pencil helps, and younger kids can simply color each leaf in one go and let the lines show through.
Color ideas
- Give each of the five leaves its own fall color: red, orange, yellow, brown and one still green.
- Color the branch dark brown and the background a pale blue, like a crisp autumn sky.
- Use two colors in a single leaf, such as yellow windows on one side of the vein and orange on the other.
Did you know?
- Trees that drop all their leaves in the fall are called deciduous trees.
- Before a leaf falls, the tree grows a thin layer of cells where the leaf stem joins the twig, which seals it off and lets the leaf drop.
- Fallen leaves break down over time and add nutrients to the soil.
Try this
Tell the story of the leaves' fall: which one let go first, which one will land last, and where each one ends up.
