Trees & Leaves Coloring Pages

This set covers whole trees and the small things that fall from them. There are full trees – a shady oak, a pine, an apple tree, a palm and a cherry tree in blossom – alongside close-ups of a maple leaf, an acorn with an oak leaf, and a branch dropping its leaves. A bonsai and a potted cactus round things out with plants that live indoors.

Most of the pages are made of big, simple shapes, so they work well for preschoolers. The cherry blossom tree and the falling leaves have smaller spaces for children who want more of a challenge.

Trees are an easy way into talking about seasons. The same oak or maple can be colored green for summer, orange for fall or left bare for winter, and children can compare their pages with the trees outside their own window.

Tips for coloring trees & leaves

  • Tree trunks are rarely plain brown. Try layering a little gray or dark green over brown to make bark look more real.
  • For a leafy canopy, color the whole shape light green first, then add darker green patches on one side to show where the shade falls.
  • Pick a season before you start. Spring trees can have pale greens and pink blossoms, while autumn trees can mix red, orange and yellow in the same canopy.
  • Leave the sky and ground for last, so you can choose colors that make the tree stand out rather than blend in.
