About this coloring page

This busy space scene holds several objects at once: a ringed planet with two craters, a cratered moon beside it, a round planet with stripes across its middle, a thin crescent moon and a small rocket flying upward between them. Sparkles fill the gaps.

With five separate objects, the page works well for children who like to plan their colors. The striped planet's bands and the rocket's fins are small spaces, so it helps to start with the big round shapes and finish with the details.

Color ideas

  • Color the striped planet in bands of tan, orange and cream, like Jupiter's cloud stripes.
  • Make the crescent moon pale yellow and the cratered moon light gray with darker craters.
  • Give the little rocket a red nose and fins so it stands out among the planets.

Did you know?

  • Jupiter is the largest planet in our solar system. Its stripes are bands of clouds, and it has a giant storm called the Great Red Spot that is wider than Earth.
  • The Moon looks like a crescent when we can see only a thin sliver of its sunlit side from Earth.
  • People use the term planet parade when several planets can be seen in the night sky at the same time.

Try this

Name the eight planets in order from the Sun together, then decide which one each planet on the page might be.
