About this coloring page

A round comet head with three craters streaks across the sky, trailing three long, curved tails like ribbons. Sparkles and small dots scatter across the rest of the page, making it look like a clear night far from city lights.

The three tails are long, pointed shapes that are fun to color with sweeping strokes in the direction the comet is flying. Kids can make each tail a different color or blend them together for a glowing trail.

Color ideas

  • Color the comet head pale gray and its three craters a darker gray.
  • Make the tails blue, white and pale yellow, getting lighter toward their pointed ends.
  • Fill the background with dark blue and keep each sparkle white so the sky glitters.

Did you know?

  • Comets are big lumps of ice, dust and rock. When one travels close to the Sun, the heat turns some of its ice into gas, which forms its glowing tail.
  • A comet's tail always points away from the Sun, no matter which way the comet is moving.
  • Halley's Comet can be seen from Earth about every 76 years, and it is expected to return in 2061.

Try this

Work out together how old your child will be when Halley's Comet comes back in 2061, and write that number on the back of the page.
