Cat in a Box Coloring Page

EasyAges 3-6Big, open shapes - good for a first crayon.

A cat peeking over the rim of a cardboard box, its tail curling up out the side.

Getting the page ready…

Pick a color, then tap inside any shape to fill it. Use the brush for the open areas and the eraser to take color back off.

About this coloring page

A cat peeks over the top edge of a cardboard box, with two front paws resting on the rim and its tall ears pointing up. Two lines are drawn across the front of the box, and the cat's tail pokes out the right side and curls upward.

Kids usually laugh at this one, because so many real cats really do this. The box is a large, simple shape that is easy to fill, and the narrow band along the top makes a good place for a second shade. The ears overlap the head a little, so take your time where the lines cross.

Color ideas

  • Use tan or light brown for the box, and a darker brown for the top rim so the flaps stand out.
  • Turn the two lines on the front into strips of packing tape, or write a label like "FRAGILE" between them.
  • Color the paws resting on the rim white, like little socks, even if the rest of the cat is dark.

Did you know?

  • Small, enclosed spaces can help cats feel safe and hidden, which is one reason so many of them climb into boxes.
  • A cat can turn each ear on its own to pick up sounds coming from different directions.

Try this

Decorate the box to look like a delivery. Add a pretend address, some stamps, or a drawing of what was inside before the cat moved in.
