About this coloring page

A tiny arched door is set into the base of a tree trunk. It has a small round window with crossed panes, a round doorknob and a step at the bottom, and a lantern with a flame inside hangs beside it. Two spotted toadstools grow at the lower corners, two sparkles shine above the door, and curved lines along the sides suggest bark.

This page has more pieces than it first appears, including the little spots on the toadstools and the flame inside the lantern. It's a good one for practicing small spaces while still offering a large trunk area to color freely.

Color ideas

  • Color the trunk brown, then add darker brown strokes along the curved bark lines for texture.
  • Make the lantern's flame yellow with an orange tip, and shade the glass around it pale yellow so it seems to glow.
  • Paint the arched door a cheerful blue or red so it pops against the bark.

Did you know?

  • In Ann Arbor, Michigan, tiny fairy doors have been tucked into the walls of shops and buildings downtown since the 2000s, and visitors go looking for them.
  • In Irish and British folklore, a lone hawthorn tree was often treated as a fairy tree, and people avoided cutting one down for fear of upsetting the fairies.

Try this

Go on a fairy door hunt around your home or yard. Look at the bottom of a tree, under a step or behind a flowerpot for spots where a tiny door could fit.
