About this coloring page
Five spotted toadstools stand around a wide oval ring: one at the back, one on each side and two in front. A fairy with pointed wings and a triangle dress hovers in the middle above the back toadstool, and four sparkles are arranged around her.
Each toadstool has several small spots, so there are lots of little spaces here next to the big open ring. Children who like repeating patterns can color all five toadstools the same, while others may want every one to look different.
Color ideas
- Color the inside of the oval ring a deep green, a little darker than the grass outside it, the way real fairy rings often look.
- Give each toadstool cap its own color and color all five stems a soft cream.
- Leave the spots on each cap white, or fill them with yellow for a polka-dot look.
Did you know?
- Real fairy rings are circles of mushrooms that form when a fungus spreads outward underground from a central point, sending up mushrooms along its outer edge.
- In European folklore, a ring of mushrooms marked a place where fairies had danced, and stepping inside one was said to be risky.
Try this
Count the toadstools, then count the spots on each one. Which toadstool has the most? Finish by drawing one more toadstool to fill a gap in the circle.
