About this coloring page
A smiling caterpillar with a round head and two antennae crawls along this page. Four round body segments sit inside a long, wavy band, and five short legs stick out underneath. A single leaf floats above, waiting to be eaten.
The circles overlap the band and each other, so there are some small spaces to work around. Children can color each round segment a different color and fill the band behind them with green, as if the caterpillar is crawling along a stem.
Color ideas
- Color the four round segments in alternating green and yellow, and make the head red.
- Fill the wavy band behind the segments with a leafy green so it looks like a stem the caterpillar is walking on.
- Make the floating leaf bright green with a darker center line, and add a few bite marks along its edge.
Did you know?
- Caterpillars grow so fast that they shed their skin several times before they become a chrysalis.
- A caterpillar has six true legs near its head and several stubby, grippy prolegs farther back.
- For many caterpillars, the very first meal is the eggshell they hatched from.
Try this
Count the round body segments, then draw more circles behind the last one to make the caterpillar as long as you like.
