About this coloring page
A Tyrannosaurus opens its jaws wide, with a row of small pointed teeth along each side of its mouth. It has a big round head with a dot eye, a rounded body with a tiny bent arm, a curved line along its belly, two block-shaped legs, and a tail curling up behind.
Kids love the open mouth, and the big head and body are easy shapes to fill. The tiny arm is drawn as a small bent line in the middle of the body, and finding it is a nice moment to talk about how small a real T. rex's arms were. The teeth are small, so they can stay white.
Color ideas
- Color the inside of the open mouth red or pink, and leave the teeth white.
- Make the body a dark green or brown with a lighter belly below the curved line.
- Add stripes across the tail, getting thinner toward the tip.
Did you know?
- T. rex had very short arms with just two fingers on each hand.
- Tyrannosaurus rex lived around 68 to 66 million years ago, in what is now western North America.
- No one knows exactly what a T. rex sounded like. Some scientists think it may have made deep, rumbling sounds with its mouth closed, the way some birds and crocodiles do.
Try this
Try picking up a toy with your elbows tucked tight against your sides, like a T. rex with its short arms. Then talk about what else would be hard to do.
