MediumAges 5-8More shapes and a few small spaces.

Getting the page ready…

Pick a color, then tap inside any shape to fill it. Use the brush for the open areas and the eraser to take color back off.

About this coloring page

This Triceratops faces you head-on. A huge rounded frill spreads behind its head, with small pointed spikes around the edge and an inner arc running inside it. Two long horns rise above its round eyes, a pointed shape sits between the eyes, and its rounded snout has two nostrils and a big smile.

Because it faces forward, this page has more overlapping shapes than the side-view dinosaurs. The frill splits into an outer and inner band, the horns cross over the arc, and the face sits on top of everything. Color the face and horns first, then the frill around them.

Color ideas

  • Color the outer band of the frill orange and the inner band yellow, with the small edge spikes in a dark brown.
  • Make the two long horns cream or ivory, like real horn, so they stand out against the frill.
  • Color the face a soft green or tan, and give the eyes a yellow ring around the dark centers.

Did you know?

  • The name Triceratops means "three-horned face". A real Triceratops had two long horns above its eyes and a shorter one on its nose.
  • Triceratops lived at the very end of the age of dinosaurs, in what is now western North America, at the same time as Tyrannosaurus rex.
  • It had a beak at the front of its mouth for snipping tough plants.

Try this

Make a frill mask from a paper plate. Cut out a face hole, add paper horns, and color it to match the page.
