About this coloring page
A mother duck floats on the water with two little ducklings paddling just below her. The big duck has a round head, a broad bill, a pointed tail, and a wing with a few feather lines on her side. Each duckling has a dot eye, a tiny bill, and a pointy tail, and a wavy line along the bottom shows the water.
Kids love finding the baby animals, and the three ducks are all made from simple ovals and circles. Coloring the ducklings differently from the mother is a nice way to talk about how baby animals can look different from their parents.
Color ideas
- Color the ducklings fluffy yellow, and make the mother brown with a darker wing.
- Give all three bills bright orange so they match as a family.
- Draw blue ripples under the wavy water line and add a green lily pad or two.
Did you know?
- Ducklings follow the first moving thing they see after hatching, which is usually their mother. This is called imprinting.
- Ducks spread oil from a small gland near their tails over their feathers, which helps keep them waterproof.
Try this
Line up toys in a row and play "follow the mother duck", with your child leading the line around the room. Then add a third duckling to the page.
