About this coloring page
A toucan perches on a branch, its huge beak stretching out to the right. The beak has a line running along it and a few short bands near the tip. The bird has a large round eye with a ring around it, an oval body, a wing with lines across it, and a foot gripping the branch.
The beak is the most exciting part to color, because real toucans have some of the brightest beaks of any bird. The bands near the tip are small, so a pencil or fine marker helps. Everything else is big and open.
Color ideas
- Color the beak in bands of yellow, orange, and red, with a black tip.
- Make the body black and leave a white or yellow patch under the head, like a toco toucan.
- Color the eye ring bright blue or green so the eye stands out.
Did you know?
- Toucans live in the tropical forests of Central and South America.
- A toucan's beak looks heavy, but it is surprisingly light. Its outer layer is made of keratin, the same material as our fingernails, over a spongy inside.
- Toucans eat mostly fruit, and their long beaks help them reach fruit at the ends of thin branches.
Try this
Cut out some paper fruit, like berries and a slice of papaya, and glue them along the branch so the toucan has something to eat.
