About this coloring page

This cat is curled into a loaf shape, fast asleep. Its eyes are closed in two sleepy curves, its tail wraps along the front of its body, and two large Zs float above its head. Two whiskers stick out on each side of its face.

Because the drawing is almost all one rounded shape, even very young children can fill it in with big crayon strokes. Its name is Sleepy Tabby, but no stripes are drawn in, so adding the tabby stripes is up to the colorer. That makes it a nice first try at drawing a pattern.

Color ideas

  • Shade the body orange or gray, then draw darker stripes across the back to make it a real tabby.
  • Color the two Zs a dreamy blue or purple so they look different from the cat.
  • Make the wrapped tail a slightly darker shade than the body so it stands out from the belly.

Did you know?

  • Cats sleep a lot. Many spend more than half the day asleep, often in several short naps.
  • "Tabby" is the name of a coat pattern, not a breed. Many tabby cats have a mark shaped like the letter M on their foreheads.

Try this

Talk about where cats like to nap, like sunny windowsills, laundry baskets, and warm laps. Then draw a sunbeam or a blanket under this cat.
