About this coloring page
A long bus with a rounded front rolls along a road. Four square windows sit in a neat row along the side, and a stripe runs the length of the body below them. There is a small box on the roof at the back, a pole near the rear wheel and two big wheels.
Four matching windows make this page good for counting and for practicing the same small motion four times. The long side of the bus is the largest space on the page, so encourage slow, even strokes in one direction to keep the color smooth.
Color ideas
- Fill the body with a warm yellow-orange, and use black for the long stripe below the windows.
- Draw a face in each of the four windows, one for each friend riding to school, before coloring the glass around them.
- Color the roof box red, like the flashing warning lights on a real bus.
Did you know?
- US school buses are painted a special shade called National School Bus Glossy Yellow. The color was chosen at a meeting of school transportation experts in 1939 because it stands out well in the early morning.
- Most school buses have a stop-sign arm that swings out from the side, and cars must stop while its red lights flash so children can cross safely.
Try this
Talk through the safety rules for riding a bus, such as staying seated and waiting for the driver's signal to cross, and have your child draw themselves waiting at the bus stop beside the road.
