About this coloring page
A heavy dump truck faces left, with a small cab and window up front and a tall, slanted tipping bed behind. Three straight lines run across the bed like the ribs on a real steel box. Three wheels show on this side: one under the cab and a pair under the load.
Big blocky areas make this one quick to fill, which suits younger children who like to finish a page in one sitting. The ribs across the bed are a good place to practice stopping at a line and starting again just beyond it.
Color ideas
- Construction yellow or orange works well for the cab and bed, with a darker shade between each rib.
- Pile brown dirt, gray gravel or tan sand above the top edge of the bed so the truck looks fully loaded.
- Color the three tires black and their hubs silver or yellow so the double rear wheels stand out.
Did you know?
- A dump truck tips its load out by pushing up the front of the bed with a strong hydraulic piston, while the back gate swings open to let everything slide out.
- The giant dump trucks used in mines are much bigger than road trucks; their tires alone can be taller than a grown-up.
Try this
Fill a small box with dry beans or rice and use a toy shovel to load and dump it, counting how many scoops it takes to fill the truck's bed.
