About this coloring page
A classic robot stands with a big square head, two round eyes and a stitched mouth made of four little bars. An antenna with a ball on top sticks up from the head. Its smaller body has two round buttons and two short slots, and its arms bend down at right angles. Two straight legs end in flat feet.
Almost every part of this robot is a square, rectangle or circle, so it is a natural page for naming shapes. The head is roomy enough for a young child to color freely, while the buttons and eyes give a little practice with small circles.
Color ideas
- Make the square head and body silver, and the two round eyes a glowing green.
- Color each of the four mouth bars a different color, like a little row of piano keys.
- Give the two round chest buttons red and yellow, and the antenna ball the same red.
Did you know?
- The word robot comes from a Czech play called R.U.R., written by Karel Čapek in 1920.
- It is based on the Czech word robota, which means hard, forced work. Karel Čapek's brother Josef is said to have suggested the word.
Try this
Play a robot game: one person gives simple commands like "take two steps forward" or "raise your left arm," and the robot must follow them exactly.
