About this coloring page
Spike is a Stegosaurus walking along the ground. Three tall triangle plates stand up along its back, and its tail curves up at the end with a small spike at the tip. It has a small round head with a dot eye, a long rounded body, and sturdy legs standing on a ground line.
The three plates are big and simple, so they are a perfect place to try patterns or alternating colors. The body is one large shape that is easy to fill. The tail tip is small, so slow down there.
Color ideas
- Color the three back plates orange or red, with the body in green, so the plates really stand out.
- Give each plate a stripe or a row of dots to make a pattern along the back.
- Make the small spike at the end of the tail a bone white or pale gray.
Did you know?
- Stegosaurus lived around 150 million years ago. Tyrannosaurus rex lived around 66 million years ago, so T. rex lived closer in time to us than to Stegosaurus.
- A real Stegosaurus had two rows of plates along its back, set in a staggered pattern instead of side by side.
- Stegosaurus had sharp spikes on the end of its tail, which it probably swung to defend itself from predators.
Try this
Add more plates down the back and a few extra spikes to the tail, so the drawing looks more like a real Stegosaurus.
