About this coloring page
A long-necked dinosaur stands tall, its small head held high at the top of a long, stretching neck. The head has a dot eye and a smile. Its body is a big oval with one curved line along the side, and it stands on two thick, block-shaped legs. Its tail sweeps up behind it.
This is one of the easiest pages in the set, with just a few big shapes and lots of room to color. The neck is a long, narrow strip, which is good practice for keeping a crayon inside two lines. There are no plants drawn, so kids can add treetops for the dinosaur to reach.
Color ideas
- Color the long neck and body gray-green, and make the belly below the curved side line a lighter shade.
- Add spots or stripes running down the neck, getting smaller as they reach the head.
- Color the block-shaped legs a darker shade than the body so they look sturdy.
Did you know?
- Long-necked plant-eating dinosaurs like this one are called sauropods. Brachiosaurus, Diplodocus, and Apatosaurus were all sauropods.
- Sauropods were the largest animals ever to walk on land, yet their heads were small compared to their huge bodies.
- A long neck let sauropods reach leaves high in trees or sweep across a wide area of plants without having to walk very far.
Try this
Draw a tall tree next to the dinosaur with leaves right at the height of its head. Then measure how high your child can reach and compare.
