About this coloring page
A lotus flower opens wide in this drawing, with long pointed petals fanning out in layers – low ones spreading to the sides and taller ones standing up in the middle. A long, slender leaf shape floats along the bottom of the page.
The outer petals are large and simple, but in the middle the outlines cross many times and make small spaces. Children can color each whole petal one color and not worry about every sliver, or slow down and treat the center as a puzzle.
Color ideas
- Color the outer petals pale pink and the tall middle petals a deeper pink, so the flower looks like it is opening from the center.
- Make the floating leaf shape at the bottom green and color the space around it light blue for pond water.
- Try white petals with a touch of pink at each pointed tip, the way many real lotus flowers look.
Did you know?
- Lotus leaves repel water so well that drops roll right off them, carrying dust away with them.
- A lotus plant is rooted in the mud at the bottom of a pond, and its leaves and flowers rise up on long stalks.
- Lotus seeds can stay alive for hundreds of years and still sprout.
Try this
Drop a little water on a waxy leaf, a spoon or a piece of wax paper and watch whether it beads up like it would on a lotus leaf.
