About this coloring page
This unicorn stands side-on with all four legs planted, a pointed horn on top of its head and a wavy strand of mane running down its neck. A sweeping tail curls out behind it, and three four-pointed sparkles float in the open space around it.
The body is one big oval, so even a first-time colorer can fill it without fuss. The mane is a single thin wavy line, which makes it a nice place to practice tracing with the tip of a crayon instead of filling. All that empty background is ready to become a night sky.
Color ideas
- Color the big oval body a soft lilac or pearly white, then press a little harder along the belly for gentle shading.
- Trace the wavy mane line three times, side by side, in pink, purple and blue so it looks like a ribbon.
- Make the three sparkles gold and fill the background around them with dark blue to turn the page into nighttime.
Did you know?
- The unicorn is Scotland's national animal, and a unicorn appears beside a lion on the royal coat of arms of the United Kingdom.
- One of the earliest written descriptions of a unicorn-like animal comes from Ctesias, a Greek writer living around 400 BC, who described a wild one-horned creature he had heard lived in India.
Try this
Count the sparkles with your child, then add more of your own, maybe one for each year of their age. Join them with dotted lines to invent a brand-new constellation and give it a name.
