About this coloring page
A small unicorn stands on a flat ground line beneath three curved lines that arch over it like a rainbow. It has a horn, a spiky fringe of mane on its head, a round eye, an oval body, four straight legs and a swishing tail.
The arching lines are open at their ends, so the stripes between them are wide and easy to fill but have no bottom edge. Show your child where to stop, or let the colors run all the way down. The unicorn's head has several crossing lines, so a lighter touch works best there.
Color ideas
- Fill the two stripes between the arcs and the space just under the smallest arc with three rainbow colors, starting with red on the outside.
- Give the oval body a pale color such as cream or peach so the bright rainbow above it stands out.
- Color the spiky mane in alternating colors, then draw short green grass strokes along the ground line under the hooves.
Did you know?
- In medieval Europe, traders sold narwhal tusks as real unicorn horns. A narwhal is an Arctic whale, and its long tusk is actually a tooth.
- The Unicorn Tapestries, a set of seven large woven hangings made around 1500, show a unicorn hunt and can be seen today at The Met Cloisters museum in New York City.
Try this
Ask your child to name the colors of a real rainbow in order: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. Then decide together which three will fit on this smaller rainbow.
