About this coloring page
A big sunflower head sits on a thick stem with two leaves. Instead of one ring of petals, it has two: a large outer ring and a smaller inner ring, all oval and overlapping, around a center marked with a few curved lines.
Because the petals cross over each other, they leave many small slivers between them. This is a page for a patient colorer, or for an adult and child to share – one person on the outer petals, one on the inner ring and center.
Color ideas
- Color the outer ring of petals bright yellow and the inner ring golden orange so the two layers stand apart.
- Fill the center with dark brown and let the curved lines show through as rows of seeds.
- Use a strong green for the stem and leaves, and color the tiny slivers between petals a light brown to look like shadow.
Did you know?
- Young sunflower plants turn their heads to follow the sun across the sky; once they bloom, most flower heads stay facing east.
- A sunflower head is made of hundreds of tiny flowers packed together, and each one can become a seed.
- Sunflowers first grew wild in North America.

If you can find a sunflower seed head or a photo of one, look closely at the seeds – they line up in spirals curving both left and right.
