About this coloring page
This rose is drawn from the front, as a wide bumpy outline with a spiral curling into its center. A short stem drops from the bottom of the bloom, with one leaf on each side.
The bloom is one big space, so it is a good page for trying out blending. The spiral line gives a natural guide: children can color the inner curls darker and the outer edge lighter to show how a rose's petals wrap around each other.
Color ideas
- Shade the spiral center a deep pink and fade to a pale pink near the bumpy outer edge.
- Try a red rose with a dark red spiral and two bright green leaves for a classic look.
- Color the bloom yellow and touch the tips of the outline with orange, like a sunset-colored garden rose.
Did you know?
- The sharp points on a rose stem are usually called thorns, but botanists call them prickles because they grow from the stem's outer skin.
- After the petals fall, many roses grow a round fruit called a rose hip, which holds the seeds.
- Rose petals are used to make rose water and some perfumes.
Try this
Follow the spiral with a finger from the outside in, then try drawing your own spiral on scrap paper before coloring this one.
