About this coloring page
A boxy rover rolls across bumpy, wavy ground on three wheels you can see on this side. A long solar panel in six sections stretches across its top, with a camera box on a mast above. A leaf-shaped object floats to the right, a round planet or sun hangs in the corner, and two small circles sit below the ground.
The solar panel's six sections and the wheel hubs give kids lots of small pieces to work through. The wavy ground and the circles beneath it can become rocks and craters, which turns the page into a whole landscape.
Color ideas
- Color the six solar panel sections dark blue with thin silver lines between them.
- Make the ground dusty gray for the Moon or rusty red for Mars, and the two circles below it darker rocks.
- Give the round body in the corner a color that matches where the rover is: a blue Earth seen from the Moon, or a bright yellow Sun.
Did you know?
- Astronauts on the last three Apollo missions, in 1971 and 1972, drove a battery-powered rover across the Moon's surface.
- The twin rovers Spirit and Opportunity landed on Mars in 2004. Each had six wheels and ran on power from solar panels.
- Opportunity was planned to work for about three months, but it kept exploring Mars for almost fifteen years.
Try this
Build a bumpy obstacle course with pillows and drive a toy car across it slowly, the way a rover carefully picks its path over rocks.
