About this coloring page
A big mushroom has been turned into a cozy home. Its domed cap is dotted with four round spots, and the stem below forms the walls, with two round windows split into four panes each and an arched door with a round knob. A flat ground line runs along the bottom with a small tuft of grass at each end.
Everything here is big and clear, which makes it an easy page for young children, yet there are still plenty of choices: the spots, windows and door can all be different colors. The cap is the largest area, a good place to practice smooth, even crayon strokes.
Color ideas
- Color the cap bright red and leave the four spots white, like a storybook toadstool.
- Fill the window panes with yellow so it looks as if a light is on inside.
- Give the arched door a wood-brown color and make the round knob shiny gold.
Did you know?
- Many storybook toadstools are based on the fly agaric, a real red mushroom with white spots that grows in woods across the northern half of the world. It is poisonous, so it should never be eaten.
- People have used the word "toadstool" in English for hundreds of years, especially for mushrooms thought to be poisonous.
Try this
Count the windows, spots and doors together. Then draw one more of each on the house and count everything again.
