About this coloring page
A round penguin stands on the ice with its flippers held out from its sides. It has two dot eyes, a small pointed beak, a large oval belly patch, triangle feet, and a tiny curl of a feather on top of its head. A gently curved line under it shows the ice.
This is one of the simplest pages in the set. Most penguins are black and white, so kids get to practice keeping two colors apart. The white belly can be left uncolored, which makes the page quicker and less frustrating for toddlers.
Color ideas
- Color the back and flippers black or dark navy, and leave the oval belly white.
- Make the feet and beak orange or yellow so they stand out from the dark body.
- Shade the ice below with pale blue, and add a few blue lines for cracks or snow.
Did you know?
- Penguins cannot fly through the air, but they use their flippers to "fly" through the water when they swim.
- Almost all wild penguins live in the southern half of the world, from icy Antarctica to warmer coasts in places like South Africa and South America.
- A penguin's dark back and white belly help it hide in the water. From above it blends with the dark sea, and from below it blends with the bright surface.
Try this
Have a waddle race across the room with feet close together and arms out like flippers, then add a fish or a friend for the penguin on the page.
