About this coloring page
A peacock shows off a tall, rounded fan of feathers. Seven long feathers spread out from its body, each with a round eye marking at the end, and an inner arch divides the fan into two layers. The peacock's small head sits in the middle with a crest of three little knobs, and its round body and legs are below the fan.
With so many lines crossing, this page has lots of small sections, and it rewards patience. A good approach is to color the seven eye markings first, then the feather lines, and finally the large spaces inside and outside the arch. Colored pencils or fine markers work better than chunky crayons here.
Color ideas
- Color each eye marking with a dark blue center, a ring of turquoise around it, and a golden outer ring.
- Fill the spaces inside the inner arch with light green and the outer layer with a deeper green.
- Make the head and body a deep royal blue, and keep the three crest knobs blue as well.
Did you know?
- Only male peafowl, called peacocks, have the long, showy feathers. Females are called peahens and have shorter brown and green feathers.
- The long feathers in a peacock's fan grow from its back, above its real tail, which is short and plain.
- Much of a peacock's shine comes from the tiny structure of its feathers, which bends light, not just from colored pigment.
Try this
Count the eye markings together, then try making a paper fan by folding a strip of paper back and forth and drawing eye shapes along the top edge.
