About this coloring page

A sea turtle swims with its round, smiling head poking out to the right. Its shell has a large oval panel in the middle and a ring of smaller panels around the edge, and three pointed flippers stick out from the sides. Two bubbles float overhead.

The panels around the shell make this page a fun sorting job: one color for the big middle panel and another color, or a pattern, for the ring. Lines cross near the top and bottom of the ring, so a few of those panels are small.

Color ideas

  • Color the big center panel of the shell a golden brown and the ring of panels around it a darker brown.
  • Make every other panel in the outer ring green and the rest yellow for a patterned shell.
  • Color the head and three flippers a soft olive green with darker green spots.

Did you know?

  • A sea turtle's shell is part of its skeleton, so it can never crawl out of it.
  • The panels on a turtle's shell are called scutes.
  • Female sea turtles come ashore to dig nests in the sand and lay their eggs, often on the same beach where they hatched.

Try this

Try a pattern challenge on the outer ring of the shell: can you keep a repeating order of two or three colors going all the way round?
