About this coloring page

A rounded whale with a dot eye and a smile floats above two wavy lines of sea. On top of its head is a small circle for a blowhole, with three lines shooting up as a spout. Two long lines curve along its belly, and a small flipper sits near the bottom.

The body is one big shape with a lighter belly band below, which is easy to color in two tones. The triangle tail fills the right side of the page and is simple to fill.

Color ideas

  • Color the whale's back a deep blue-gray and leave the belly band between the two long lines a pale gray.
  • Make the three spout lines light blue and add little drops around them.
  • Color the two wavy lines at the bottom bright blue and the space between them turquoise, like rolling sea.

Did you know?

  • Whales are mammals, not fish; they breathe air through a blowhole on top of their heads.
  • The spout you see when a whale surfaces is mostly its warm breath mixed with spray, not water from its mouth.
  • The blue whale is the largest animal known to have ever lived.

Try this

Talk about why a whale has to swim up to the surface before it can breathe, then draw a fish friend beside it that can stay underwater the whole time.
