About this coloring page

A smiling fairy stands with her arms held out, wearing a bell-shaped dress, with two large rounded wings behind her shoulders and a smooth cap of hair. A five-petal flower on a short stem grows at the lower left, and a single sparkle floats on the right.

The rounded wings are the largest spaces on the page and are lovely for soft blending. The flower is nearly as big as the fairy's dress, which makes it easy to imagine her as a tiny creature looking after a giant blossom.

Color ideas

  • Color the round wings pale aqua and leave a narrow white edge inside each outline so they look see-through.
  • Match the bell-shaped dress to the flower's petals so the fairy looks as though she belongs to that flower.
  • Give the flower a yellow center and a green stem, then draw a leaf or two of your own along the stem.

Did you know?

  • The English illustrator Cicely Mary Barker published her first Flower Fairies book in 1923, pairing each fairy with a real flower or plant.
  • The word "fairy" comes from the Old French faerie, which grew from the Latin word fata, meaning the Fates.

Try this

Take the finished page outside and find a real flower. Name it together, then decide what that flower's fairy might be called and what color her wings would be.
